What is the Hongkong Prize?
The Hongkong Prize is one of Asia’s premier writing contests and draws authors from around the world to compete for cash prizes and present at an awards ceremony. An impartial judging process ensures fair competition; therefore it is vital that contestants read all rules and regulations carefully prior to submitting an entry.
No matter your profession or artistic expression, the Hongkong Prize provides an avenue for you to reach a global audience and make your voice heard. The award recognizes individuals and organizations who promote world civilisation while inspiring harmonious societies – past winners include social justice activists fighting for democracy in their home countries and an organization providing shelter to homeless adults. Symbolizing humanity’s ability for compassion and perseverance alike.
Winners of the Hongkong Prize not only receive a monetary prize, but will also have access to Hong Kong’s premier research facilities for six months – providing them with an opportunity to expand their skills in one of the world’s premier science hubs, learn about Hong Kong’s unique culture and history, meet fellow scientists – many of which have gone on to win Nobel prizes – collaborate and meet.
For consideration of the Hongkong Prize, applicants must publish scientific articles that make an impactful statement about society as a whole. Articles must be original, such as clinical (prospective or retrospective), observational/epidemiological or basic science studies (meta-analyses are ineligible). Applicants should also boast impressive academic credentials, superior writing abilities and the capacity to translate research findings into real world applications.
This year’s Hongkong Prize finalists were chosen using a rigorous peer review process that is free from sponsorship or external influences, including any external sponsorship arrangements. A jury of experts then selected winners who will each be awarded up to HK$50K cash prizes with an additional award going back to their school to promote arts development in Hong Kong.
This award provides young Hong Kong artists with a tremendous opportunity to develop their talents while continuing their studies and expanding their education. Judges look for art that captures Hong Kong culture and identity while being creative in style and meaning. The prize offers artists an invaluable platform to advance their careers and increase global recognition. However, applicants should note that the judging process for this award may take considerable time and patience is necessary in order to be considered. Judges assess each entry against criteria they have determined for them, such as how it was constructed or its overall message. Judging is no easy task, so high quality work must be submitted as submission of exceptional pieces will earn them recognition at a ceremony in late 2018. The winning pieces will be announced during an awards ceremony scheduled to occur later in 2018.
