What is the Hongkong Prize?

Hongkong Prize is one of Asia’s premier awards, drawing thousands of applicants annually and offering both financial prizes and access to Hong Kong’s premier research facilities for winners. Its iconic symbolism includes two precious elements – pearl and jade amulet – representing two precious elements which carry positive connotations both within Chinese culture and Western societies as well as scientific innovation, international cooperation and high moral standards of conduct.

To qualify for the Hong Kong Prize, applicants must publish an influential scientific article that makes a profound statement about humanity today in a peer-reviewed journal. Ideally, this should be clinical, observational or epidemiological in nature and be the result of original research; other types of articles (review articles or letters to editors etc) do not qualify; previous winners have included researchers from all over the world such as Justice Centre Hong Kong for its efforts in providing migrants with protection, justice and dignity on their journey toward protection, dignity and independence. Since 2007, researchers from all over have competed for this HK Prize award since 2007. This year’s jury selected Justice Centre Hong Kong as civil society winner due to their work ensuring no migrants are left behind on their path towards protection justice and dignified life.

As well as receiving a monetary prize, finalists will also be invited to an awards ceremony in Hong Kong. This gives them a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow scientists from around the globe and stay current on any new advances within their field of research. Furthermore, it gives them an opportunity to present their work at this international platform during an awards ceremony presentation session and gain international exposure for it.

The Hongkong Prize is an effective way to promote science amongst youth. Rewarding those who excel both academically and extracurricularly, encouraging students to follow their passions and develop global perspective is the goal here. Their website is user friendly with various promotions available that increase your chances of winning! To maximize chances of winning make sure to read all rules and regulations prior to entering; only play at reliable gambling websites to avoid scams!

Established by friends and students of late Dr. John D. Young in 1996, the Hong Kong Prize honors postgraduate students with outstanding research into Asian history. Judges remain independent of sponsorship or ad-hoc committees to ensure the prize goes to deserving candidates; top ten finalists receive not only financial compensation, but shopping vouchers as well as food and beverage perks! Although highly competitive, it’s certainly worth entering if Asian culture and history is your passion!
